Permaculture Community Garden

Permaculture Community Garden Project

Starting Spring 2023

Permaculture gardening focuses on working with nature, rather than against it. Natural eco-systems are created to benefit the growth and regeneration of the garden. Permaculture practices can be used on both small and large scale gardens. While participating in our yearly program, you can learn these practices to apply to your own gardens! Or participate year after year to continue learning.

We have several goals attached to this program to benefit both the participants and the animals that call this sanctuary home.

  1. Educate participants & provide food

Our main goal with this project is to educate you, the participants, on permaculture practices! Our program will be a seed and harvest commitment, maintenance help is welcomed but not expected throughout the summer. Seeding will take place after the last frost of 2023, and go over the structure of the permaculture garden, reasons for planting the plants, trees and shrubs we do and more. Harvest will take place in the fall, where everyone will participate in harvesting our yields. After the harvest all the garden goods will be divided amongst the participants in fair shares.

  2. Provide food for the Animals

We all know that not all food is perfect, and some parts of the garden may rot. These wasted fruits and vegetables will go to the animals on the sanctuary. Our pigs need a healthy diet of fresh fruits and vegetables while also eating their grain feed. Other animals also benefit from eating fresh fruit and vegetables, so it can help every living being on the sanctuary.

  3. Assist in funding the Animals

If there is any leftover after all the participants have received a share, it will be sold to local grocery stores. As a non-profit organization this money will go directly to the care of the animals. This may not happen in the first year, but our garden will continue growing from its starting one acre to a larger field to help with funding.
